FAQ

What is your inclement weather policy?

A: In the event that school opens late or closes early due to inclement weather, including for heat related closings, under direction of Baltimore County Schools, Play Keepers may not open. In cases where schools close at their regularly scheduled times, but the statement issued by the Superintendent specifically states that all afternoon and evening activities are cancelled, Play Keepers centers will be closed.

Are you open on scheduled half days?

A: When elementary schools close three hours early for a Professional Study Day, Play Keepers in those schools will open when school closes and remain open until 6:00 p.m. There will be no charge for the extra hours for those children on regular roll. If you need care but your child does not regularly attend on that day, you may contact the main office at least 24 hours in advance to see if space is available. There will be an extra fee for the afternoon. Play Keepers at Campfield Early Learning Center will close at 12:45pm and Pikesville Middle School will be closed on these days.

Can I set up an appointment to visit the center before I register my child?

A: Yes. Please call our main office at 410-484-6220 or send an email to info@playkeepers.com, to schedule a time.

What is the procedure to withdraw my child?

A: We require two weeks’ notice of your intent to withdraw your child. You must call our main office at 410-484-6220. You are responsible for payment of tuition during these last two weeks.

What do I need to do if I want to drop or add days?

A: Please call 410-484-6220, at least 24 hours in advance. Please note that your account must be current in order to add days.

Do you accept Purchase of Care Vouchers?

A: Yes, but keep in mind that you are responsible for the monthly tuition until we receive your voucher. For information on how to apply for POC Vouchers, please see our Resources page.

What must I do if my child requires medication that may need to be administered while at Play Keepers?

A: If your child may require emergency medication while in our care, that medication, and a completed Medication Authorization Form, must be at the center prior to your child’s first day. We do not have access to medications stored with the nurse.  You may download the Medication Authorization Form from our Registration page.

What happens if my child becomes ill at the center?

A: If your child becomes ill at Play Keepers you or your emergency contacts will be notified. You must then pick up your child or have someone else do so within 45 minutes. Your child will wait for your arrival isolated from the other children so as not to spread the illness. Remember that a late fee will be charged after 45 minutes.

What must I do if I am running late for pick-up?

A:  The center closes promptly at 6:00 p.m.  If you are unable to pick up your child by this time, you must find someone who can.  Please call the center and let them know who is coming.  Parents arriving after 6:00 p.m. will be charged a late fee at the rate of $1.00 per minute per family.

Can I send someone else to pick up my child?

A: Yes, as long as that person is listed on your emergency card. If he or she is not listed, you must call the center or write a note granting permission. In either case, for your child’s safety, our staff will ask for ID.

What should I do if my child participates in an after school activity or would like to be a classroom helper?

A: In order to permit a child to attend school activities or assist teachers in classrooms during Play Keepers’ hours, written permission must be given by the parent. You may write a note or obtain a permission form from the center director.

Will my child have an opportunity to begin homework?

A: Yes. Play Keepers’ staff is available to answer questions and offer guidance. Play Keepers’ staff cannot be responsible for requiring your child to do homework. This matter is between the parent and child.

Is a snack provided?

A: Nutritious snacks are an important part of the program and are provided before and after school. We emphasize that this is a snack and is not intended to replace a healthy breakfast. Children are welcome to bring their snacks from home to eat at the center during snack time. A menu is posted each month in the center.
